Terms of Use
This is the same text shown inside the app. It was written to describe what Tradeonomist actually does, and every factual claim in it is checkable against the code.
Tradeonomist is education, not advice
Tradeonomist teaches trading concepts and helps you build a habit of reviewing your own decisions. It is not a broker, not a dealer, not an adviser, and not a portfolio manager. Nothing in the app — no lesson, no finding, no recommendation, no score — is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and none of it is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything.
Tradeonomist is built for the North American market — Canada first, the United States alongside it — and for stocks, ETFs and listed options. Anything regional by nature (tax treatment, registered accounts, investor protection, exchanges, regulators, settlement) is written for those two countries and should not be carried to another. Everything else — risk, psychology, indicators, strategy, discipline — is jurisdiction-free. Tax rules, account types and protection schemes change and vary by situation; confirm anything affecting your own taxes or accounts with a qualified professional before acting on it.
Other instruments — futures, forex, CFDs, bonds, mutual funds — are outside what the app teaches and outside what it measures. A brokerage import may still contain them; they are stored, but no lesson covers them and no finding is written about them.
Every trading decision you make is yours. You can lose money trading, including more than you put in when leverage or derivatives are involved.
What counts as a trade
A trade means one CLOSED round trip: a position opened and then closed. An open position is not a trade here and is not counted anywhere — until it is closed there is no result to measure, and counting it would mean scoring a guess.
Imported sales are priced against the pooled average cost of the identical shares you held — the adjusted cost base. That is the method Canadian rules require and the one Canadian brokers report; pricing a sale against one specific older lot instead would give a different result on identical trades. Where a sale cannot be matched to shares the app knows you held — bought before your history begins, or transferred in — that portion is dropped rather than guessed at. Its cost is genuinely unknown, and inventing one would put a fabricated profit or loss into your win rate.
For options, each contract is its own position: a different strike or expiry is a different trade, never netted against another. A contract held to expiry is recorded as closing at zero, because that is what it returned. Exercise and assignment consume the contract but record no trade of their own — the position became stock, and those shares appear as their own trade when you close them. Option results are multiplied by the contract size.
A trade you write yourself is recorded when you give enough to measure one — what you got in at, what you got out at, and the stop you had planned. It is dated by the day the trade CLOSED, not the day you typed it, so writing up a past trade puts it on the day it happened.
What the Score is and is not
The Score combines how much of the curriculum you have read, how consistently you keep the rules you chose to track, and the win rate of the trades in your account. It measures behaviour and consistency. It does not predict returns, and a higher score does not mean you will make money.
Levels and ranks are derived from the Score alone. Nothing in the app ranks users by profit and loss, trade size, or account value, and no leaderboard of financial outcomes exists or will be added.
Your account
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter a contract where you live. One account per person. Keep your credentials to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
Give accurate information at sign-up. A display name that impersonates someone, advertises, or is abusive may be removed.
Connecting a brokerage
Broker connections are made through SnapTrade, a third-party aggregator. Tradeonomist never sees or stores your brokerage username, password, or two-factor codes — you enter those on the broker’s or SnapTrade’s own screens, and Tradeonomist holds only a connection reference.
The connection is read-only. Tradeonomist cannot place, modify, or cancel an order, and cannot move money.
Imported trade history can be incomplete or wrong, because it depends on what your broker reports. Treat it as a record to review, not as a statement of account. Your broker’s own statements are authoritative.
Figures are shown in the currency the trade was made in, and are never converted. If your accounts trade in more than one currency, each is reported separately rather than added together — a rate applied after the fact would show you a result you never actually had. Where your broker does not report a currency, the figure is shown without one.
Disconnecting inside Tradeonomist removes the authorisation on SnapTrade’s side as well. Trades already imported are kept, because they are your history.
What you write
Your reflections, notes, and check-ins remain yours. You give Tradeonomist permission to process them, and to store your notes and check-ins, in order to run the app — which includes sending the text of a daily reflection to a third-party language model to extract the trades described in it. The reflection text itself is not kept.
The picture reader works the same way: an image you choose to have read is sent to that model to extract the trade shown in it, and Tradeonomist does not store the image. Check what it read before you save it; it can be wrong.
The AI coach (a weekly note and a chat, both on Ultimate) writes from your own record, which is sent to the language model for that purpose. That includes summaries (your Score, rules, patterns, streak and lessons read) and, for the chat, your most recent closed trades: the date, ticker, result, currency, entry reason, holding period, broker label and which of your rules you kept or missed on each. It does not include your notes, reflection text or account numbers. Your chat messages and the coach’s answers are stored in your account so the conversation can continue. The coach is educational. It answers only from your record, it can be wrong, and nothing it says is a recommendation or advice.
A CSV file you import is read on your device. The trades in it are stored; the file is not kept.
Do not put anything in a reflection, a picture or a coach message that you would not want processed this way: no passwords, no account numbers, no other people’s personal information.
Paid plans
There are two paid plans: Pro and Ultimate, each billed monthly or annually. Ultimate includes everything in Pro. Some features require a paid plan, and some are capped within a plan: reflection parsing is limited per day and by length (Free 3 a day and 2,000 characters; Pro and Ultimate 10 a day and 4,000), the picture reader is limited per month (Pro 3, Ultimate 60), and the coach chat is limited to 300 messages a month on Ultimate. The caps are shown in the app and on tradeonomist.com/pricing, and may change as set out below. Where a subscription is bought through the App Store or Google Play, that store handles billing, renewal, and refunds under its own terms, and cancellation is done there rather than here.
New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial of a monthly or annual Pro or Ultimate plan. A trial needs a payment method held by Apple or Google; Tradeonomist never sees or stores your card. The trial’s length and the price that follows it are shown before you subscribe. The trial becomes a paid subscription at that price when it ends unless you cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions first — for the App Store, at least 24 hours before the trial ends; if you cancel in time you are not charged. A trial is offered once per store account, and the store decides whether you are eligible. We send a reminder before a trial ends, but cancelling is your responsibility and is done in the store. If the store grants you a refund, paid features end from the time of the refund.
A monthly plan renews each month and an annual plan each year, at the price shown before you subscribed, until you cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the plan until the end of the period you have paid for.
Prices and what each plan includes can change. Changes will not apply to a period you have already paid for.
Coach, flags and tax report: educational only
The AI coach, the superficial-loss and wash-sale flags, the tax-year report, What-if replay and the analytics are tools for reviewing your own record. They are educational. They are not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and they are not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.
The superficial-loss and wash-sale flags and the tax-year report are built from the trades you logged or imported and the tax residence you set. They can be incomplete or wrong, they do not consider accounts held by a spouse or other affiliated persons, and they do not replace your broker’s slips or a qualified tax professional. You are responsible for what you report.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service. Do not scrape or bulk-extract the lesson library. Do not use the app to harass anyone or to distribute anything unlawful.
The lesson content and the app itself belong to Tradeonomist and are licensed to you for personal use only.
Availability, and what we do not promise
The service is provided as is. Features can change or be withdrawn, and the app can be unavailable — for maintenance, because a third party we depend on is down, or otherwise.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Tradeonomist is not liable for trading losses, lost profits, or indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion removes your account and personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
An account may be suspended or closed for a serious or repeated breach of these terms.
Changes and governing law
These terms can change. Material changes will be shown in the app before they take effect, with a new effective date.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
